One rarely knows what is good for us and what is bad. Therefore if we knowingly put ourselves in the hands of Almighty, whatever happens must be deemed good. And I try literally to follow that precept.
Gandhi, "Letter to Francesca Standenath", April 1947

Who is Robert C. Fischer?

Robert C. Fischer is a student at Duke Divinity School, which he entered intending to study Old Testament. Although the Old Testament is still a fond friend, he has since become fascinated by constructive interfaith conversation and hermeneutics, especially around M.K. Gandhi, Leo Tolstoy, and Abdul Ghaffar Khan. He is also very interested in the way in which political science, sociology, neuroscience, behavioral economics, and ethology can inform theology (and vice versa).

Robert is also a Conservative Quaker, a member at the Durham Monthly Meeting of the Society of Friends, and a thirty-second degree Scottish Rite Freemason. Robert is a committed Christian, but is interested in enacting a loving commitment to God and not particularly interested in doctrine. He believes that knowledge of God has an end goal of understanding how best to enact that loving commitment, and this blog explores that connection.

In a previous life, Robert was a very active software development consultant, working under the name Smokejumper IT and invested in Agile development, polyglot development, and functional programming languages. Now and again, he posts on those topics over on the EnfranchisedMind blog.
